The RCMP has shown over and over that it will roll over and let federal politicians, government officials and lobbyists off in corruption cases.
The RCMP Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners and the heads of every RCMP division lack independence because they are all appointed by, and serve at the pleasure of, the Prime Minister and ruling party Cabinet. This makes the RCMP vulnerable to political interference and influence. A fully independent anti-corruption police force is needed to ensure effective, non-partisan enforcement.
Democracy Watch has been digging for the past few years into key RCMP investigations, and with your support will continue to push for full disclosure of investigation records in cases of alleged corruption, and for effective, public enforcement of anti-corruption laws in every case.

- Private prosecutions in corruption cases when the RCMP and other police forces let off politicians, government officials or lobbyists, including applying for court approval:
a) To prosecute Prime Minister Trudeau for pressuring the Attorney General to stop the prosecution of SNC-Lavalin, which DWatch believes the evidence shows should be ruled on by a court considering obstruction of justice and breach of trust charges;
b) To prosecute Prime Minister Trudeau for accepting the gift of the family trips to the Aga Khan’s private island in the Bahamas, which DWatch believes the evidence shows should be ruled on by a court considering charges for accepting an illegal gift;
c) To prosecute anyone involved in the ArriveCan app scandal who investigations show violated the law (if they are let off);
d) To prosecute lobbyists who violate the federal lobbying law but are let off by the RCMP and Commissioner of Lobbying (click here to see details), and;
e) other future federal corruption cases.
- Democracy Watch’s ongoing campaign to establish new, fully independent federal and provincial anti-corruption police forces, and for other key changes to ensure fair, effective, non-partisan law enforcement across Canada.
